The State of Maryland recognized early on the positive effect the Westside's revitalization will have on the viability of the state as a whole and quickly became a strong supporter and major participant. Not only is the revitalization consistent with the State of Maryland's Smart Growth initiative, the return on public investment is expected to be significant.

Today, state support is evident everywhere throughout the revitalization area - in transportation infrastructure investment, in historic tax credits, in the funding for the Convention Center and Camden Yards, and in the expansion projects of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, campus and the University of Maryland Medical Center. Numerous state agencies are also headquartered in the Westside, including the Department of Human Resources, the Department of Education, the Department of Social Services and the Social Security Administration.
